Governor Rhonda Santis has announced the suspension of state attorney Monique H. Warrell from the 9th Judicial Circuit Court. The suspension is attributed to allegations of neglect of duty and incompetence in her role.

DeSantis asserted that Warrell failed to uphold mandatory minimum sentences and had misused her discretion by not pursuing charges in certain cases. The governor claimed that her actions effectively undermined certain laws within the state of Florida. While prosecutors possess discretion in case selection, DeSantis accused Warrell of abusing this discretion and breaching her responsibilities to the people of Florida under the state constitution.

Warrell has countered these allegations by labeling the investigation into her policies as politically motivated. She suggests that DeSantis has been seeking grounds to remove her from office. Alongside Warrell, state attorney Andrew Warren of Hillsboro has also been suspended. Warren had gained attention last year due to his public positions on abortion and gender therapy restrictions.
