University of Michigan honors Michigan State during pregame ceremony

A powerful tribute at Chrysler Center in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines and its fans show support and solidarity to its in-state rival, the Spartans, after Monday night's tragedy. Thank you for joining us for Local 4 News at 11. I'm Pamela Osborne. Tonight's game was the first men's basketball game since the shooting. Quite a different scene from games past as fans cheered as the Spartans came on to the court. Our Jacqueline Francis was court side for the game.

She joins us live from Ann Arbor with the feeling inside the arena tonight, Jacqueline. Pamela, it was really something to experience during that moment of silence, the look on the faces of not just the state fans, but the Michigan fans as well, as everyone reflected on what has truly been a heart-wrenching week. In a powerful display of unity, they just gave me goosebumps you mentioning it and I brought a lot of tissues. It's just great what they're doing here in Ann Arbor to give some healing. It's just a wonderful thing, we're hoping for the best. Warming up on the court, the Wolverines were special shirts that read the words of the Spartans. The Wolverines were special shirts that read the words of the Spartans.

Warming up on the court, the Wolverines were special shirts that read Michigan basketball stands with MSU, while Michigan State players wore Spartan strong across their chests. It's a reminder that we're in basketball rivals, but still not rivals. During the moment of silence, Top of Mind were the three students that lost their lives and the five still fighting to survive. My son has a friend who was one of the victims who was shot but is alive and so that has been really challenging to know that he's, you know, I think that he's doing better, but he's going to be in the hospital for a long time, so that's really hard. The unity felt in Chrysler Center, a reminder that sports have the power to bring people together. It was a basketball game, so there was a winner. Michigan did end up pulling off a win.

The final score was 84-72. Michigan will have highlights coming up in sports. It is also worth noting that Michigan State students will resume classes on Monday. Reporting live from Ann Arbor, Jaclyn Francis, Local 4.
