El Paso police say mall shooting began as fight

Stand by. To recap yesterday at 505 calls came in shots fired at Salavista Mall. At 508 there was an off duty officer working a security detail for one of the stores in the mall was already on scene and took a one person in custody. No officers were injured and no officers fired their weapons. One individual is confirmed deceased and three others were shot. I want to emphasize this is a random incident that occurred between two groups at the mall. The confrontation between the groups took place in the food court area of the Salavista Mall and that's where it was isolated too.

During the confrontation a physical altercation took place. A fight during that fight group B, one person produced a handgun and shots were fired. As a result of the shooting one member in group A was fatally wounded and deceased at the scene. Two persons in group B were wounded and are listed in stable condition at local area hospitals. A preliminary information at this time is that there were at least three people legally armed with handguns in the area of this incident. The FBI is still helping us with the webpage so anybody with any video or photographic pictures that they have during that incident we're asking for you all to provide those to us so we can continue this. Thank you.
