Winter storm causes power outages and major travel disruptions

A severe winter weather stretching from coast to coast is impacting millions of Americans more than 785,000 customers nationwide lost power last night and more than 1,600 flights have been canceled CBS News Correspondent Christina Raffini is in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Wow with a look at the conditions and the wild weather around the country I say no more the picture has stated a thousand words Christina. It looks pretty bad there How do you prepare for this? How are people preparing for for what I'm looking at? Well, the thing is I mean for me from a lot of people in a lot of parts of the country This would be a mammoth storm But the thing is is it's February in the upper Midwest like these people know how to do a snowstorm, right? Yesterday we were out and talking to people and saying were you preparing or you nervous? We couldn't find anybody who was even freaking out about this although they were heeding the warnings people were like getting groceries and Getting their last taco run in before they went and hunkered down for the storm But this morning there they've asked everybody to stay off the roads They have about 800 plows that have been going pretty much around the clock and building up these big mounds like this trying to keep the streets Passable but the mayor's asked everybody to stay off the roads today because it's going to be near impossible Conditions and as you can see it's coming down about two inches per hour And it's supposed to just keep accumulating throughout the afternoon About half of the flights of the airport here have been canceled others have been delayed or pushed off But they are still managing to get the public transportation running around this city We've seen the tram going behind us and people sprinting through the snow We're saying don't run don't run to try to catch their train to wherever they're going You know the kids around here unfortunately don't even get a snow day anymore because it's remote learning The good news is is the Wi-Fi lines are still working So everyone's supposed to be on their laptops and the sledding I guess is gonna have to wait but hopefully everybody stays safe Everybody hunkers down and and weather's the storm. Yeah, hopefully yeah stay safe is key That's why you got to stay off the roads They can't clear the roads if there's all kinds of cars who have been in accidents and stuff like that blocking it Christina you stay safe to no running in the snow. Thank you.
