New six is Molly Reid starts our live team coverage tonight at the Orlando Regional Medical Center where those officers were taken in critical condition and are now recovering tonight.

Intense Manhunt

Between the time of the shooting and the suspect's demise, approximately 10 hours passed. Various law enforcement agencies from all over central Florida joined in the search for the suspect, making it an arduous day for everyone involved.

The Shooting Incident

The shooting occurred around 11 p.m. when Orlando police officers stopped a car near Washington St and Garland Avenue. They were investigating a vehicle wanted in connection to a homicide in Miami when 28-year-old Dayton Vale shot two of the officers.

The Carjacking

After the shooting, the suspect carjacked a vehicle, which led to a pursuit. The officers were taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center while the manhunt for Vale began. The initial report of two suspects was later clarified, with the second person not being involved in the shooting but merely present at the scene.

SWAT Team Confrontation

The search for Vale led investigators to an apartment complex in Apopka, where the carjacked vehicle was found. Subsequently, the SWAT team confronted the suspect at a hotel in Orlando. After several failed attempts to persuade Vale to surrender, he opened fire on the SWAT team, prompting them to return fire and resulting in his death.

Officers' Identities and Recovery

The identities of the injured officers have not been disclosed, but they are currently in the hospital with their families. Fortunately, they are expected to make a full recovery from their injuries.

Remaining Questions

Chief Smith couldn't provide specific answers to certain aspects of the ongoing investigation, including how Orlando police tracked down the suspect to the hotel and how he arrived there after carjacking the vehicle. More details are anticipated to emerge in the coming days as the investigation continues.
