In a recent interview with NFL Insider Tom Pelissero, he discussed the challenges the Indianapolis Colts face in potentially trading their star running back Jonathan Taylor before the upcoming season.

Pelissero noted that while there have been reports about potential offers for Jonathan Taylor, the trade process is much more complicated due to various factors. Unlike a simple bidding war, the Colts would need to negotiate a new contract with Taylor before proceeding with any trade. Taylor's agent, Melky Kawa, is seeking a deal that would put him among the top running back salaries, ranging from 12 to 15 million dollars per year. However, this poses a challenge given the current market conditions where top running backs are not commanding such high salaries.

Despite Taylor's skill and potential, he is coming off a season with an ankle injury that impacted his performance. The Colts also seem to be holding out for a more favorable trade package for Taylor than what the Carolina Panthers received for Christian McCaffrey the previous year.

With a Tuesday deadline looming for a potential deal, the Colts are in a position where they might proceed with Taylor as part of their team if an agreement isn't reached. On the other hand, the San Francisco 49ers appear to be more open to trading Trey Lance, potentially making it more likely for Lance to be traded than Taylor.
