WGN People to People hits the Hollywood headlines ... Cleopatra controversy and what is Richard Drey
history and who's black has Twitter all the buzz this week Netflix is drawing praise and criticism alike for a new project TV and film critic Emmanuel Noiset known as E-men on his popular social media pages is here to tell us all about it. All right E-men. Yes sir. Let's talk Cleopatra. Oh people are excited and then some people are like this ain't it. Right right so first and fault let me just say I've seen it it's actually pretty good you know this was produced by Jada Pinkett Smith and it does recount the history behind Queen Cleopatra of Egypt however the people of Egypt well at least an Egyptian lawyer has sued Netflix because they felt as though it was miscategorizing or misappropriating their culture and their heritage primarily because she's black right the actress is black. I was thinking that they were gonna have an issue maybe with some facts maybe like well maybe she didn't do this or maybe this didn't happen but no it's really just because her skin tone just didn't mesh with what the cultural and societal views were of what she should look like and yeah without saying too much they just don't like the fact that she's black.
So what is Netflix saying about this? Netflix so far hasn't really said much and I think that's kind of true to form to Netflix. There's no stranger to the controversy you know in terms of their programming and a lot of times they're just gonna stick with whatever the artistic vision is of the product that they put out there. Gotcha all right let's go ahead on and talk Richard Dreyfus. Oh we just doing one after the other. Tell us about this below that we've seen now. Richard Dreyfus has come out recently and talked about how the new diversity and inclusion rules from the Academy they apparently make him sick they want to make him they make him vomit right. These are his exact words right and this kind of leads you to the belief that either Richard Dreyfus is either ignorant of the actual rules racist or a combination of both because the rules really are not preventing anyone from doing anything artistically.
The Academy rules are really just there for what will be eligible for best picture nomination. But let's talk about those rules and what he has an issue with. Right so I think he has a huge misconception of the rules so the rules are I'll give you the basics of it. All it says is you just need to have a minority in front and or behind the camera so you could have an all-white cast but sprinkle in a little minority in the background and by the way that includes just white women so you can you could actually be racist if you want to and just have an all-white cast and crew but just make sure you at least have women so it's a very very low bar but he thinks that this means that well if I'm a white man I can't play a black character. I was just about to bring that up. I don't know why Richard Dreyfus and again this is his words I don't know why he wants to play black character I don't know why he thinks blackface is okay it's not I have no idea what black character Richard Dreyfus dreams about playing does he want to play shaft does he want to play action Jackson I don't understand it but this guy is just really off the rails right now. Man that's quite interesting but let's move on from there.
