Dallas woman among five others suing state of Texas over abortion ban

Healthcare should not be determined by some politician. Lauren Miller is one of five women suing the state. Tuesday she traveled to Austin to tell the world why. And on her drive back home to Dallas, she called me. I've been angry frankly. And today was very empowering because it felt like we were taking action. Miller was pregnant with twins.

Miller was pregnant with twins. A static, she told her family and friends, put the final touches on a nursery. But doctors said one of her babies would not survive. And every day that he continued to develop, he put his twin and myself at greater risk. That was really where healthcare ended in Texas. Texas law does allow an abortion to save the life of a pregnant patient. But Miller says doctors here would not help her.

The law she and four other plaintiffs now argue in this lawsuit is too vague and confusing, forcing doctors to turn away patients seeking medically necessary abortions. Texas Right to Life argues it's medical groups causing confusion. Because doctors and medical groups are choosing not to interpret the law as they've been doing way before any of our strong pro-life laws to protect. Miller went to Colorado. To have to flee the state that has been my home for pretty much all of my life was surreal. The lawsuit doesn't try to overturn the state's abortion ban, but does ask the courts to clarify it. It is just cruel to me to keep holding on to an unviable twin when he will never know anything besides pain. Miller will be induced in two weeks. I'm still carrying both boys.

So I'm going to deliver twins, but only one of them is going home with us. And allow abortions when fetuses aren't likely to survive. In Dallas, I'm Sydney Persing. It will be emotional, exhausting, but Miller says it will only fuel her fight. In Dallas, I'm Sydney Persing.
