Missing 4-year-old boy found dead on Spectacle Island shore

We have a terrible breaking news update on the search for a little boy in South Boston. State police have confirmed with WBZ News and CBS News Boston that they have found the body of four-year-old Mohammed Abu Fafana. He disappeared off of Castle Island yesterday evening. A marine unit found him on the shore of Spectacle Island. WBZ's Louisa Molar is live at the scene. WBZ News Paula Little Mohammed was found around 12.30 on the shore of Spectacle Island.

This is Spectacle. Right across the bay from us here at Castle Island, we're told State Police Marine Unit saw his little body with binoculars, just an absolutely gut-runching end to this nearly 20-hour search. A short time ago, his family was still here huddled and processing. And I'm even told some of his teachers from a nearby school came hoping for the best, but I saw some of them very tearful when they realized the worst. The little boy went missing last night around seven. His grandfather lost sight of him from a nearby playground, and 30 minutes later, there was a massive search underway with boats, divers, drones. Investigators found his blue shoe, a crock, in the water and also saw some surveillance video showing him moving roughly towards the direction of the water.

Mohammed was autistic and nonverbal according to his family, and the loss of this baby is hitting hard for everyone, including first responders. There's not one trooper or officer, firefighter, EMT, Coast Guardsman, anyone else involved who did not want to get better in a happier outcome. For the actual personnel who make the recovery, we understand that it's a difficult mission. We have an employee assistance unit, which helps to debrief the party members who are involved and they are on scene today. There were social workers on scene to help Mohammed's family, and a couple minutes ago, we saw his mother and grandfather taken away in a police cruiser. We're also told there will be some resources for the first responders who actually found his body. In South Boston, I'm Louisa Moller, WBZ News.
