Cyclone Mocha, the strongest storm to ever hit Myanmar as a Category 5
in the Atlantic Ocean. Hurricane season starts on June 1st, but other parts of the world it is well underway. This is the case in the Bay of Bengal where we have cyclone mocha out here. Now remember cyclones are the exact same thing as hurricanes. They're just in a different part of the world. This storm peaked as the equivalent of a category 5 on the San Francisco scale. Absolute devastating conditions here in that right front quadrant.
I've already seen reports of storm surge coming out of this area on this very low-lying vulnerable coast. It's definitely going to have major impacts, not locally, but even globally we're going to be seeing a ripple effect from this. I mentioned vulnerable coasts, but also the geopolitical situation here. There are thousands of refugees in temporary housing in these low-lying areas have been asked to evacuate. Strongest storm ever make landfall there in Myanmar. You can even see this is Dvorak analysis. Just kind of giving you an estimate of what the winds are in just less than 48 hours.
This jumped from about a cat to up to the category 5. So another case of rapid intensification over warm sea surface temperatures. Now the storm is headed inland. It's going to be a big rain event for northern areas of Myanmar, eastern areas of India out here as well as it just continues to push off their tors north. Let's look at the tropics here on the other side of the world, a major storm system. I'm meteorologist Robert Spada.
