Arizona Coyotes' bid for new arena appears to fall short

We turned to team 12 political insider Bram Resnick. Bram the results coming in about two hours ago Reactions are still very fresh and in some cases raw. This was billed as the greatest deal in Arizona sports history So what happened to put it simply they didn't read the room, right? They totally misread the room and tampi. This is a different kind of election an off-year election You have a different kind of voter the voter was older These are folks who voted who had voted in several elections before so they knew the community They were connected to the community and the message sent by the coyotes clearly didn't resonate also you have to ask whether any community right now would approve any kind of Tax that in any way might fund a sports team. Those are on the outs. They are not popular at all and whether I know there's love People upset about this the message sent by the no-side suggesting this was a subsidy the coyotes were going to get a tax subsidy From the city clearly the tot the coyotes were going to get a big chunk hundreds of millions of dollars in future tax revenues to support the project It just didn't go down. Well, it's just not the right audience for this kind of message Yeah, I'm so obviously like you said not the result of the coyotes wanted So what are the steps ahead for the team and really also just for the city of Tempe? City of Tempe it's over Four mayors the current mayor at the city council were repudiated in this election They're not going to touch this again The question for the coyotes is that you're playing in Muller arena a college arena on the ASU campus That seats 5,000 people was supposed to be a bridge to the new arena where everything was going to be just peachy That's not happening.

That's a bridge to nowhere If I'm the coyotes right now if I'm Gary Betman the commissioner of the NHL I'm getting on the phone to Matt Ishby the new owner of the Phoenix Suns and saying hey Can we play in your arena? Because the idea of three arenas three major league arenas in a community the size was always it always never made any sense The ideal matchup would be to have the Suns and the and the coyotes back where they were Yeah before where the coyotes by the way had a lot of success They did problems with that arena right of some obstructed view seats Right college be right now because he could probably get this team at a bargain rights if you wanted. Yeah The team that has no future As far as we know well, hopefully we'll know more there will be clarity Yeah, there will be clarity in the next few days people will come out of the woodwork saying hey Maybe we want that team other cities. Yeah, I'm sure there's some cities that would love in a nature Atlanta is one of them. Yeah, kind of disappointing for all the fans though And glad you said that yes this has broken a lot of hearts. We saw it on social media tonight One couple who say they met because of the coyotes are married because the coyotes I know that's a lot. There's a lot of that and it's a real it's a really tough time for a team They cheered for and that might not be in this community Coyotes fans have been through so much with this team with ownership and coaching and losing players and now a rebuilding process I that's who I feel bad for yeah, and they stuck with them through a lot of dark days, right? But this is this is the darkest day. Yeah.

All right, bram. Thanks.
