NFL Insider Connor Hughes on Derek Carr's visit with the Jets: 'It went great' | Connor Hughes

Let's move to the jets now. Derek Carr hopefully had a nice weekend here. Any word on how the visit went and what his timeline might be? Yeah, it went great. It went great for both sides. You know, for Derek Carr, he got a chance to meet with the Jets coaching staff, the Jets front office, Jets ownership. He really hit it off with all of those guys from the Jets side of things. They were able to meet and really get to know Derek Carr and those concerns that were around about how his personality might mesh in New York.

He completely, Derek Carr erased all of those. The Jets have absolutely no concerns with that whatsoever right now. So now the next step for Derek Carr, from my understanding, is that he does plan to take another visit, maybe a couple more visits. He does wanna meet with all the teams that are potentially interested in him. But the timeline for him on signing, it's probably within the next couple of weeks because Carr wants to have his deal done before the start of free agency so that he can help bring in and help kind of play the bargainer to bring other people with him to the team that he ends up choosing. Be that negotiator himself to try to bring in some help as well. All right, Connor, quickly before you go.

So how does Aaron Rodgers then fit into all of this? Well, that's the tough thing, right? Because Derek Carr is a very, very, very good quarterback, but Aaron Rodgers is still in the Jets' eyes, the MVP player that he was just a couple years ago. They see some of the struggles that he had last year as more of a result of that bum thumb. So as good as Derek Carr is, you're comparing a very, very good quarterback, great quarterback to maybe one of the best quarterbacks we've ever seen. And it's this very difficult pattern that the Jets kind of find themselves in right now, towing that line between the player they could potentially have right now versus the player who may or may not be available in Aaron Rodgers. And I think the one thing that does help the Jets a little bit is that Aaron Rodgers, or I'm sorry, Derek Carr, is not looking to sign tomorrow. He's not looking to sign right now. He does want to meet with other teams which could also bring Derek Carr's timeline into where the Jets know exactly what Aaron Rodgers wants.

So if Rodgers comes out of the darkness and says, you know what, I want to trade to the Jets, the Jets go full steam ahead with that. If Rodgers comes out of the darkness and says, you know what, I just want to retire, or I want to go back to Green Bay, the Jets still should have time to put all of their eggs in the Derek Carr basket because they do really believe in him as a quarterback. It's really just kind of a funky little timeline they're dealing with right now. Well, Connor, with Aaron Rodgers, darkness retreat wrapping up soon, I'm sure we'll be speaking to you soon as well. Thank you so much for hanging with us.
