Paris Protesters Set Fire to Protest Proposed Retirement Age
Garbage fires and fight. All of this unrest in Paris is in response to French President Emmanuel Macron's plans to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64. Less than two hours into a march protesters and police started scuffling while trying to separate troublemakers dressed in black who regularly show up to protests to purposefully destroy shop and bank windows. The nationwide rallies and marches were the second round of protests in four days against Macron's pension reform proposals. Macron's refusal to accept Union leaders' request for a meeting has only added to built-up frustrations according to the leader of the leftist CGT Union. All of this trash piling up another clear sign of the opposition to the proposal with garbage workers leaving Paris streets filthy as a result. The Senate is currently debating the measure.
On Friday, the government asked for a special procedure to speed up the process by scheduling a single vote on the entire bill rather than separate votes on each article and hundreds of amendments. For Inside Edition Digital, I'm Stephanie Officer.
