Good afternoon everybody. Welcome into the Sports for CLE Studios on Dave Bacon, a developing story with the Cleveland Guardians. The Guardians are keeping one of their young, hot shot prospects that is developing and ascending in a Guardians uniform for a long time. AP has confirmed that the Guardians have finalized a long-term contract extension with second baseman Andres Jimenez. Jimenez was an all-star and a gold-glover at second base last season. He has agreed to a reported seven-year, $106.5 million contract extension.
There is also a $23 million option in the eighth year of the deal, and Jimenez had a breakout season last year. He hit $297, Homer's $69 runs batted in 20 stolen bases. Mentioning won the gold glove for second baseman was also an all-star. He'll be 25 in September. This will be the fourth season he has spent, at least part of this season, in the big leagues. An ascending star, Andres Jimenez, agrees to a seven-year contract extension. The Guardians are reportedly close to extending relief pitcher Trevor Steffen as well.
