3 Texas women being sued by friend's ex-husband for allegedly helping her get abortion pills

Galveston County man is suing his ex-wife's friends for helping her get an abortion behind his back. It's the first lawsuit of its kind in Texas and there are strong reactions from both sides of the abortion bait. Text messages show the woman talking with her friends about her wish to terminate her pregnancy last July. No justice! No peace! It was after Roe v. Wade was overturned and months after the state of Texas passed a law that allows people to sue those who help women get abortions. The friends talked about using a website that sends abortion inducing pills in the mail. But then, the messages revealed they found someone in Houston with access to the pills.

The lawsuit states the woman used them to get the abortion. Marcus Silva filed the lawsuit this week. It says the woman who helped his ex, quote, committed the crime of murder. Tonight, Planned Parenthood told us in a statement, quote, We're outraged but not surprised. It has been clear for years that anti-abortion extremists plan to use the judicial system as an instrument of fear and intimidation, end quote. Silva is being represented by former Texas Solicitor General Jonathan Mitchell who helped write some of Texas' strict abortion language and state representative Briscoe Cain who told us tonight, quote, Anyone involved in distributing of manufacturing abortion pills will be sued into oblivion, end quote. He's seeking $1 million for his client.

They said they wanted to help but couldn't under Texas law. Earlier this week, five Texas women sued the state over the abortion law. It doesn't seek to overturn it but asks for the law to be clarified to make clear that doctors can perform abortions when the life of the mother or fetus is at risk. One pregnant woman spoke about receiving news that her unborn baby was likely not going to make it. As my medical providers tried to counsel me on my options, they would stop mid-sentence looking for the words. It was like they were afraid that they would be arrested just for saying the word abortion out loud. All this makes it clear the abortion battle isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

We want to point out we did try to get those involved in the Galveston lawsuit to speak on camera, but we weren't successful.
