Winds topple trees in the South Bay

several trees toppled overnight in the South Bay. KTLA's Megan tell us live in Manhattan Beach with that story. Megan, good morning. Yeah, good morning to you out here in Manhattan Beach. It is a chilly 48 degrees as the sun comes up. It's warmed up about a degree, but that's about it. But hey, let's talk about all of this wind.

I just talked to residents here, the Monroe family who say this is the most wind we've experienced in decades and they've lived here for 30 years. So last night overnight, it was an experience here in Manhattan Beach to say the least. And at 10 PM, the co-owner of the Pacific Linae apartment building, which you see tucked behind these trees here, says he was renovating one of the apartments when he heard a loud boom. He describes a situation like this. Listen. Very surprised, wanting to know what was going on. And I've lived here for 30 years and never seen wind like this in Manhattan Beach.

Can you confirm no one injured inside? I believe no one was injured inside. We just got some rain gutter damage, but boy, was it dramatic. It's pretty crazy. Normally I parked my car like on that corner because I just live across the way. Crazy. I did hear a thud last night and I'm just really grateful this morning that I parked a couple of cars up. So the large eucalyptus tree that once stood tall next to the Pacific Linae apartments came toppling down, splitting into three parts.

One of those parts landing on a white picket truck. One of them standing tall. The other part landing on top of the apartment complex, which has been around since 1965. It sits along Laurel Avenue near Manhattan Beach Boulevard right here in Manhattan Beach. Sky 5 showing you what the scene looked like overnight. The winds also bringing down power lines across LA County. SoCal Edison reports that more than 9,000 customers are without power this morning.

Let's keep talking about trees that have toppled down overnight. Another tree fell in Torrance. This was the scene at Cabrillo and Santa Fe Avenue as you take a look at this next video near Sepulveda Boulevard. The tree covered much of the intersection. No one injured there. And another giant tree knocked down also in Torrance outside Providence little company of Mary Medical Center. The tree partially blocking the entrance that ambulances use at the hospital, but Torrance firefighters were able to use chainsaws to clear branches from the street.

And not only trees down, exploding transformers. Take a look at this video. It could be seen in the South Bay overnight. It happened on the Westbound 91 freeway near Long Beach Boulevard near Compton. Lights were out at Lumida Boulevard in Western Avenue in Harbor City overnight. Trash cans were knocked over along with basketball hoops in Torrance. Streets were in the dark, we're told, in the 23,000 block of Carlo Road near Anza Avenue.

So again, talking about those 9,000 customers of SoCal Edison and more without power this morning, we'll keep you updated as those numbers continue to fluctuate on this Wednesday morning. That is the very latest. I think it's now cooled down. I said it was 48. It feels like 47 now. Frank and Jess, I'm going to send it back to you and go warm up my nose. Yes, take it away.

You do. All right, thank you for that.
