St. Louis CITY SC embracing underdog status as expansion team

The expansion fee was about 200 million. The stadium cost was about 450 million, but the payoff will be priceless. Our MLS franchise will play their first ever game in Austin Saturday night. Now the prognosticators have CitySC finishing last this season. Their response today? We looked at predictions a few days ago where nobody fancies us at all, which is great. To be fair, most expansion teams are considered to be the outsider, be the underdog, and I think we need to deliver that role and we feel comfortable in that role as well. There is no pressure, right? There's no relegation system.

We can just play every day free. We can just play like every day. This is a celebration for us to be part of something special. The most important thing is compete against everyone. You know, it's not just to be in the league, to participate and think that, oh, because we are expansion team, if we lose it's okay. It's normal. The people will accept that because it's our first year, we don't want this.

We want to compete against everyone. We can perform without pressure, of course. There were no fans, no big stadium, no big obstacles, but I think we have to think to perform well, to be competitive and to surprise some people.
