The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has issued a call for residents to conserve energy in the coming days due to the extreme heat. While ERCOT states that the situation is not yet at an emergency level, precautions are being advised to prevent potential energy shortages.

According to Urquhart, a spokesperson for ERCOT, the region is not currently facing an energy emergency, but there is a possibility of approaching that threshold. In the event of an emergency, ERCOT operates with three levels of response. At level two, voluntary energy conservation is encouraged. Level three could involve controlled power outages. As a preemptive measure, residents are being encouraged to reduce their energy usage by delaying tasks such as laundry, minimizing oven usage, and adjusting thermostats to higher temperatures. It's important to note that these actions are applicable if the situation escalates to an emergency status.

While ERCOT is closely monitoring the situation and has not declared an energy emergency at this point, residents are advised to stay informed about the energy situation in their area and to follow recommended guidelines to prevent potential energy shortages.
