MLB rule changes: bigger bases, pitch clocks
Essentially all events in the game are going to have a clock on them and batters and pitchers are going to have to comply with those requirements, deliver pitches on time, get in the box on time, things like that, which we think and hope is going to create a better pace of play, cut out some dead time and really highlight and bring forward the best parts of our game, which is guys playing the actual game, not just standing around fixing their batting gloves. Yeah, I was a big fan of it, obviously speeds up the game as a pitcher, it's kind of what you want. You know, big league hitters take a long time to get to the plate, and that drives me crazy, so this pitch clock kind of expediting the process, you know, I like it a lot. I feel like when you start doing automatic strikes, automatic balls, automatic runners advancing to bases, the automatic run scoring possibly, just based off of a step off or a pick off. To me, I think that just changed the integrity of the game. That's just me. Again, maybe I'll like it, maybe it won't be as big of a change as I think, and I don't anticipate it really being a huge issue, but it's something that we're all going to be obviously cognizant of.
We're going to a bigger base, instead of the traditional 15 inch base, right, 15 inches on each side, it's 18 inches on each side. We hope it is a subtle way to encourage more aggressiveness on the base paths, but also provide a little bit safer environment, especially a first base to help avoid some collisions and guys getting stepped on and things like that. It does have merit to the casual fans, who I don't think a lot of people understand the nuances of the game to really appreciate the slow pace, the strategy, but the game isn't meant to be a one hour game like football. There shouldn't be a timer. You shouldn't have a tie game in the bottom of the ninth and you lose because the pitch clock ran out. That's not how the game should be played. I'm not really thrilled about them, but at the end of the day, it's still baseball and I can live with it, as long as nothing major changes.
I was just curious to figure out.
