another big story tonight and arrest in the shooting death of a beloved local bishop and in a surprising twist the man behind bars tonight has a long time connection to the murdered bishop. Our Leanne Souter's live in Hossian Heights tonight with new revelations. Leanne? Ellen investigators say that Bishop O'Connell's killer was his housekeeper's husband, a man that had worked for him as well. Here at the scene a memorial of candles continues to grow in his honor as a search for the motive continues as well. Another night of the rosary in front of the home where Bishop David O'Connell lost his life. Morners saying their prayers as they struggled to comprehend his murder. He's just a kind man, kind soul, gentle and you know just the kind of the kind of leader you'd want to follow.

He was a very nice guy, very good, good around with all the kids but then hearing on the news I got shot. I felt I felt really bad. I don't know why people would kill a bishop out of all people. The man accused of the crime, the husband of O'Connell's housekeeper, 65-year-old Carlos Medina arrested this morning at his home in Torrance. Detectives recovered two firearms and other evidence possibly linking Medina to the crime. Tactical officers had surrounded the apartment after Medina initially refused to surrender. Authorities say a tip Sunday night led them to the 65-year-old.

Detectives were told by the tipster that they were concerned because Medina was acting strange, irrational and made comments about the bishop owing him money. The last couple of days just been odd. That's all I could say but no he was a good man but yeah the last couple of days we haven't seen him as much as we used to do. Sheriff Luna says Medina had also worked for the bishop. The motive for the murder remains under investigation. The 69-year-old was found shot to death in the bedroom of the Archdiocese owned home he shared with other priests in Hacienda Heights. Sorry about it.

Archbishop Jose Gomez fighting back tears as he talked about the loss of his friend. He was a good priest and a good bishop and a man of peace. He married us. It was his first wedding in Ireland. Denise and Joe Byrne who are visiting from Dublin were supposed to see their friend of 40 years today. Instead they are now mourning his death. Please don't meet him today at lunch.

We're only visiting. We came over to meet him. So many suffering given the death of this beloved bishop Medina. The suspect remains behind bars tonight. The sheriff says his wife is fully cooperating with detectives. Levin Hacienda Heights, Leigh Ann Souter, ABC 7 Eyewitness News. Leigh Ann, thank you.
