Summary:

South Korea is planning to push ahead with the Scouts' jamboree, despite the expected typhoon. Event organizers are taking measures to ensure the safety of participants.

The event's organizers plan to evacuate tens of thousands of teenage Scouts out of the path of the typhoon that is set to drench their campsite. The storm is the latest headache for the jamboree's planners, which began last Tuesday amid one of the worst heatwaves to hit South Korea in years. The heat caused hundreds of Scouts to fall ill, triggering complaints from parents. The British and US contingents have already left the campsite, with the Americans staying at a US army base and the British at hotels in the capital Seoul.

UK scout chief Matt Hyde expressed concerns about sanitation and food, emphasizing the need for better conditions. The Governor of North Geolah Province, hosting the event, has taken steps to address the situation by providing water trucks and air conditioners to keep participants cool. Typhoon Kanun, which has impacted southern Japan, is expected to reach southern South Korea on Thursday, prompting officials to make arrangements to move about 36,000 participants to safer areas.

Despite the challenges posed by extreme weather, officials are determined to ensure the success and safety of the jamboree, marking the first global scout gathering since the health crisis.
