U.S. Braces for Migrant Surge as Title 42 Expires | El Minuto (English)



The Minuto. Migrants have been flooding the city and things could get a lot worse. Tomorrow, Title 42 expires. The Trump-era restriction that prevented asylum seekers from coming into the U.S. during the pandemic. Biden administration officials say they do expect a surge of asylum seekers and that they've been preparing for this moment for months.

Sources say Biden is preparing to instruct Homeland Security to release migrants from custody that don't have scheduled court appearances without any way to track them. Locally, Governor Huckle issued a state of emergency order that allows the state to mobilize 500 more members of the National Guard and freeze up resources to deal with the crisis. Tension is building up between Mayor Adams and local suburb officials who are trying to block the city's plans to relocate some migrants to the Hudson Valley with Rockland and Orange County officials taking legal action to block the moves from happening. On a separate note, Rep. George Santos pled not guilty today to 13 federal charges, including fraud and money laundering. He made it clear that he doesn't have any plans to resign.
