Man's brother, cousin critically injured in Brownsville crash
tonight investigators in Brownsville are awaiting toxicology reports. They hope to learn more about a man who plowed his SUV into a group of people outside a migrant center Sunday morning. Eight people died. 10 others were hurt on the alley. Ruiz is in Brownsville tonight. Well, police tell me three of the survivors are out of the hospital tonight. Seven other people are still being treated.
The suspect George Alvariz faced a judge for the first time. A judge that is bond at $3.6 million on charges of manslaughter and aggravated assault. Prosecutors say Alvariz ran a red light, lost control and crashed into 18 people who were waiting at a bus stop. Today, we talk to a man who says his brother and cousin are two of the victims in the hospital in critical condition. Jose Luis Ruiz says he doesn't know much information about his brother. He just knows he hasn't been diagnosed yet.
But his cousin had a severe head injury. Well, investigators tell us at this time all the victims are men most appear to be from Venezuela. They're still trying to figure out if this was an accident or it was intentional. Of course, we'll keep you posted in Brownsville. Anayeli Ruiz, KGU 11 news.
