‘Fundamentally unacceptable’: U.S. envoy accuses South Africa of arming Russia

The arming of Russia by South Africa with the vessel that landed in Simons Town is fundamentally unacceptable. We are confident that weapons were loaded onto that vessel and I would bet my life on the accuracy of that assertion. We recognize that South Africa will have multitudinous diplomatic relations around the world, economically, politically, etc. Our concern is when those actions materially deviate from the question of non-alignment, particularly in theaters of conflict in this case. Our officials reiterated our respect for South Africa's policy of neutrality in non-alignment in international affairs.
