Elon Musk Names New Twitter CEO

Twitter has a new CEO, Elon Musk, making it official with a tweet today. She is Linda Yaccarino, who until today was an executive at NBC Universal, which is our parent company. Yaccarino will now be Twitter's next chief executive. As our business attack reporter, Scott Budman reports, one of her biggest challenges is lowering back advertisers to Twitter. She knows a lot about advertising, that's for sure. Twitter's new CEO is someone Twitter owner, Elon Musk, has known and worked with before. Linda Yaccarino, former chair of Global Advertising and Partnerships for NBC Universal, parent company of this TV station, has been named new chief of the social media site.

In fact, just weeks ago, Yaccarino led a keynote conversation with Musk at a marketing and advertising conference. I think entertaining is one way some people in the room describe Twitter today. Yes, it's just. Brainwrecks, arguably, are entertaining. You know, it was interesting that Musk has pulled someone from the advertising world to take the helm at Twitter. Nora Benavidez runs Stop Toxic Twitter, a group that flew this banner, reading Musk is bad for business above the very ad conference where Yaccarino interviewed Musk. Dozens of ad brands that want to get their message out to users, and yet they are featured next to some of the worst stuff.

They're featured next to neo-Nazis, white supremacist content, really horrible junk. Many say it makes sense that Musk would look to someone who knows ads well. After all, that's the main way the company makes money. And she's gonna come in and she'll be the operational maturity and hopefully the stability that this company needs to woo advertisers back and make it a safe place for people who want to invest money here. And in an environment where ad dollars are increasingly going to online companies like Facebook, Google, and TikTok, Twitter has to convince advertisers it's stable enough to warrant their dollars as the company plans to roll out programming from the likes of Tucker Carlson and the Olympic Games.
