Taylor Swift fans taking Ticketmaster to court
They are taking ticket master to court in downtown LA this morning. KKal knees your protein and Patel live in downtown LA. This is where a hearing and that rally are scheduled. Good morning. That hearing just now getting underway in the federal courthouse. Cameras are not allowed inside, but we had a chance to talk to some of the plaintiffs before they went in. Take a look.
They had a rally outside the courthouse before they went in. There are about 340 plaintiffs in this case. People who tried to get tickets to Taylor Swift's tour right now that's going on the arrows tour and they said they had problems with ticket master and its parent company live nation. So they decided to file suit against the ticket company, claiming fraud and antitrust violations. This is a case that is fairly new. The lawyers tell us that they don't know if anything like this has been tried before, but they thought it was necessary to take action. Here's who they say is involved in this case.
These are really moms and dads and they've got kids and they've got passions and they tried hard and followed all the rules to try to purchase a ticket. And in most cases were unable to purchase a ticket or if they did, they paid such an exorbitant price that it violates the antitrust provisions of the laws that were enacted by our country. Now tickets for this tour went on sale in November and at the time Taylor Swift herself saw that there was problems. She said that she was trying to get to the bottom of this. The Department of Justice actually opened their own investigation and Congress had a hearing a couple months ago. So there are a few different organizations now looking into what happened and seeing if anything can be done as we come back out here. The plaintiffs in this case are hoping that something will be done to just change the policy of the law.
And that something will be done to just change the policies because they say even though nothing might change for this upcoming tour with Taylor Swift, they are hoping that maybe Ticketmaster will look at how they do things and make it easier for fans the next time around.
