Man citied for wildlife harassment after he pursued a humpback whale



The DLNR has cited a Maui man for harassing a humpback whale off the coast of the Big Island. And this is the video that led to that citation. State enforcement officers received numerous calls yesterday about a wildlife harassment incident. They say 65-year-old David Jimenez was actively pursuing an adolescent humpback whale and dolphins inside Cali Kikua Bay State Historical Park. They say 65-year-old David Jimenez was actively pursuing an adolescent humpback whale and dolphins inside Cali Kikua Bay State Historical Park. And this video shows the man snorkeling. Look at that, close enough to the whale and almost actually touch the whale's fin. An officer also saw and recorded Jimenez allegedly leading a group and chasing a pod of spinner dolphins. Both whales and dolphins are protected by state and federal laws. Jimenez is scheduled to appear in Kona District Court in May. And this video shows the man snorkeling.
