Ford announces restart to F-150 Lightning EV production on March 13, Explorer sales rise 100%
Well, let's take a look at another big story, another big mover today, and that is Ford shares shares closing up just about 2% as the company announces. It is restarting F-150 lightning production. Our Prosturbanian is here to discuss Prost. Obviously good news here for Ford. Welcome news for Ford. Yeah, restarting that production after almost a month off there for the F-150. We heard about that stoppage on Valentine's Day, actually, but it actually stopped a week before that.
Good news there, they're allowing their battery supplier SK on to sort of ramp up new cells and new, they build them into a pack to put them into the car. So they're giving them time to do that. But they're going to continue to hold back the produced vehicles, even the ones they're building right now, to work through some updates that they're doing. So not out of the woods yet, but still welcome news that in a week or about 10 days time we restarting production on that. That is big news for them. A lot of bets on that and the shares up just less than 2%. Our Ford also out with February sales and it can stand out to you in that regard.
Yeah, and a good month, welcome news again here. Good month for Ford after some struggles at the end of the year. Sales up there 22% from a year ago there. Improvements it seemed to part shortage of sort of alleviating there. Big moves here for the F-150 up 10,000 compared to a year ago. The Explorer up 10,000 units compared to a year ago. I know that surprised me too.
And the Bronco of course up about 7,000 versus a year ago. So good stuff there for them from that point of view. But those lightenings they still have about 1,300 lightening last month. March is going to be really light. So that's going to be a tough month for them in terms of production there. So that'll be a bad thing for them. But it seems like other cars, the ice powered gas cars are improving for them.
The Explorer shocked me man. I mean I just a vehicle you haven't heard much about. The Bronco you hear about constantly people are just paying to move up in the line for a Bronco. That is a hot car. Look at that thing. I want to get one of those. I might want one of those more than the Ford F-150.
