Drivers identified after Beltway crash leaves 6 dead in Woodlawn

Yeah, that's right. Only about I want to say maybe 10 or 15 minutes ago. Now police have identified the drivers involved in two cars that were involved in that crash. One of those drivers is that shock trauma. The other one we're told wasn't hurt. But here's what police say happened. Again, they painted a clear picture of what actually happened in that crash.

They said that around 12.40 this afternoon, 54-year-old Elisa Adrina Lea was trying to switch lanes at her gray Acura near Security Boulevard on I-695. They said her vehicle then hit the front corner panel on the passenger side of another vehicle, a Volkswagen, and that was driven by 20-year-old Malachi Brown. State police think that this caused her Acura to lose control and travel into that work zone. It actually went between two Jersey walls and hit several construction workers before it flipped over. Now, six construction workers actually died when that crash happened. Medics took Lea to shock trauma.

We're told that Brown actually stopped his Volkswagen north of the scene where his car actually became disabled. We're told that he wasn't hurt. We actually spoke with people who heard the crash when it happened and said that they couldn't believe that all of this was happening. Take a listen. It is horrible. Like, it is horrible. I did not know that noise was from this.

So, it's bad. It's just a shame. You know, you go out there for a day's work and then you don't know what's going to happen. And the way people have been driving up and down, even with construction, they still think it's a raceway. Now, charges are pending following the outcome of the investigation. We're also told that the Baltimore County State's attorney is also involved. On top of that, the Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Inspectors will be investigating as well because that crash happened inside of a work zone.

Now, we're told that the victim's names have not yet been released, but we do know that both lanes are back open on 695 and Woodlawn. And of course, all of this remains under investigation and we're expecting more information in the coming days. Reporting live here in Pikesville, Kairi Stewart, KTVU.
