Buildings Leveled, Neighborhoods Obliterated Across Rolling Fork, MS Following Tornado

Rolling Fork, Mississippi here in the Delta town of about, oh, just under 2000 and we talk about the scenes of devastation. The whole town is essentially wiped out and you see behind me. I'm standing on a driveway that is a home destroyed in the layers of destruction in this neighborhood. House after house, we look over here. Another house except for there are one, two, three and four vehicles slammed on their side, some upside down. A ruining of creating havoc on that house. People's belongings are strewn literally everywhere around this town.

And the thing is when this storm came in, you can imagine traveling 65 miles per hour in speed heading eastward. At 166 miles per hour counter twist with the storm as the tornado rolled through an EF4 rating. This is what it looks like. But within all of this rubble and within all of this debris or families and memories and friends and their lives and what a means something to the humanity of these people. And this road, this street, this neighborhood dotted with what used to be homes and people going on their lives as we begin this week on a Monday. Kids would be off to school. Not today here.

There's no electricity. There's no running water. Vehicles are coming by and assessing. FEMA is on the ground trying to give short term relief to people. The state and local governments trying to figure out not only short term, but long term for everyone moving forward. And yet, you know, we have more rounds of weather coming into the south later this week potentially. They've been going through severe weather scenarios since Christmas every single week.

To begin spring to see scenarios like this destruction. Just unbelievable for the folks here going through all of this. And you know, the thing is the Mississippi Delta, not a region that is rich. Let's face it. It's been impoverished, unfortunately, for many decades. They need all the help they can. And these aid groups are here trying to do that in the short term.
