Texas ice storm: Governor issues disaster declaration

That winter store made things really dicey across North Texas. Governor Greg Abbott just issued an ice storm disaster declaration. It includes seven Texas counties hit hard by the weather. Most are in central Texas, but here in North Texas Denton County is included and more could be added. The governor says repairs to damage infrastructure is underway and ongoing, so are attempts to clear debris from property and roads. That declaration pays rather close attention to Travis County, specifically Austin. This is a live look at the Encore map.

There are thousands of homes and businesses in that area are still without power this morning. That number, it's slightly improving. It's been cut in half since yesterday. Crewsman, they are working around the clock to really get the lights on and the heat pumping.
