One of victims in MSU Shooting is from SWFL

to start things off with breaking news. We're following very closely right now. Fox four has confirmed one of the victims shot at Michigan State University on monday is from right here in southwest florida. The sister of Guadalupe Wapila Perez tells us she is one of the five people who was shot and critically injured right now. She is in the hospital. Now we want to show you video of what Pila Perez seen here. This is from the call your county schools website for the commencement of a mockley high schools class of 2020 Guadalupe's sister tells us she is now a junior at michigan state majoring in hospitality business.

On monday evening, investigators say a 43 year old man walked onto the michigan state university campus opened fire in two locations, killing three students and injuring five others, including Wapila Perez. Fox four anchor Nadine Yanis talked with the michigan state director of multicultural business affairs. He knows what Pila Perez through a student organization within the business program and he says he and the Spartan family are praying she pulls through. I want her, you know, family to know that the Spartan family is looking out for her. They're praying for her. They are thinking of her and willing to support her in many various ways, however we can. Um, but we really care.

We love her. Um, she's, she's truly a part of this campus community and you know, like I said, it's truly a Spartan family and we will band together, you know, we will band together, we will have a lot to process, but there's a lot of healing to be done. Um, and she is someone that we are all thinking of and keeping in the forefront of our thoughts. Now Fox four reached out to Wapila Perez's family and there is a go fund me page set up for her recovery and for the family's travel. Her sister writes on that page, doctors tell us that even in improving conditions, the process for a full recovery will take months of care and subsequent rehabilitation. We will have more information for you about what doctors are doing to help Wapila Perez and the other students who were injured in about a half hour. We have a path.

She walked strength, passion and compassion. So as we celebrate her, let's be reminded that we don't honor the narrative of last night. Heart wrenching video from last night, a michigan high school had this vigil to honor one of the people who was killed in that michigan state university shooting. Our script station W X Y Z in Detroit was there and they report mourners remembered Alexandria Verner as a difference maker in her community. Also coming up this morning on Fox four morning news, you'll hear from students about what they saw the day of the shooting. Mhm.
