No chemicals from Ohio train derailment detected in Louisville water, officials reiterate

Leaders with Louisville waters say the water here is safe. Officials told a Metro Council committee today that no detectable levels of chemical from the train derailment in Ohio were observed in Ohio River samples in Louisville this week. The derailment happened February 3rd. Officials say the first low-level detection of any chemical related to the derailment was six days later in West Virginia, more than 500 miles upstream from Louisville. That immediately triggered an interstate spill response effort. Of all monitoring completed over the past two weeks, only low levels of two chemicals associated with the train derailment were detected. Once the water moved into our river pool, there was no detections and the river water associated with the spill passed by Louisville on Monday.
