Inadequate investigation? Takeaways at Murdaugh murder trial
In his own double murder trial, Alec Murdoch took the stand this week. He answered questions from the prosecution about what happened the night his wife and son were killed. Murdoch says he lied to his family, friends and investigators about where he was the night Maggie and Paul were murdered. But Murdoch says it was his pill addiction that led to the lies. He said being an addict made him unwell. He said his addiction made him paranoid when it came to the police. Around the time of the murders, Murdoch says his addiction became worse and he started experiencing withdrawals.
Yesterday Murdoch says the first time he lied to law enforcement in the case was while they were responding to the crime scene. It was earlier tonight. I don't know the exact time, but I left. I was probably gone an hour and a half from my mom's and I saw them about 45 minutes before that. That was Sergeant Green, correct? Yeah, that was Sergeant Green. And at that point in time, Sled was not there. No one had gotten GSR from you.
Your law partners, or Sheriff Hill were not there. That's correct. No one had asked you about your relationships. David Owen was not there. I don't know if you've heard of it, but I've heard of it. I've heard of it. I've heard of it.
David Owen was not there. That's correct. But you still told the same lie. And all those reasons that you just gave this jury about the most important part of your testimony was a lie too. Isn't that true, Mr. Murdoch? I disagree with that. Nothing further.
Meanwhile, when questioned by defense, Murdoch said he didn't kill his wife and son. He said he would hurt himself before hurting his family. Murdoch started his time on the witness stand Thursday and finished his testimony right before court adjourned yesterday. Testimony will continue Monday morning at 9.30.
