Harvey Weinstein sentenced to 16 years in prison

The very studio mogul Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after being convicted of rape and sexual assault in Los Angeles. He will serve that after his 23 year sentence for sexual assaults on two women in New York. The 70 year old Weinstein convicted in December for his attack on a model and actress in an LA hotel room. California's first partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom says she was one of Weinstein's victims. She testified at his LA trial. She sent us a recorded video with her reaction to the sentencing. I never asked to join this club.

None of us did. Given the impact on ourselves and our loved ones, I understand why so many stay silent. We as victims separate our minds from the trauma held within our body. It's simpler to put the memory and pain in a box and repeatedly tell yourself that it didn't really happen. Weinstein continues to claim he was set up. His attorney vows to appeal. He spoke out in court himself today saying that he's innocent and these people are all just trying to take his money.

Our friend Elizabeth Wagmeister from Variety reporting that saying, in fact, he looked at the judge and says, I beg you mercy. Yeah, that's clearly not coming.
