Charges: Kendrid Hamlin punched U.S. Rep Angie Craig

This is a developing story on CBS News Minnesota. Charges have been filed in yesterday's assault against Representative Angie Craig. The suspect, Kendred Hamlin, was federally charged earlier today. The charges say that he followed Minnesota Representative Craig into an elevator in her Washington, D.C. apartment building. He became agitated after a short interaction with the representative and punched her in the face.

During the altercation, he also prevented her from leaving and grabbed her from behind. She was able to get out of the elevator and call for help after throwing a cup of hot coffee on the suspect. In a statement earlier today, Representative Craig said that, quote, I was very, very lucky that I was not more injured and that I feel very fortunate to have escaped following the attack and be home in Minnesota today recovering. Today with WCCO TV and CBS News as we continue to follow this developing story.
