Atlanta Hawks FIRE Head Coach Nate McMillan | CBS Sports

We've got some breaking news out of the NBA here in CBS Sports HQ. The Atlanta Hawks have fired Nate McMillan that's coming from ESPN. McMillan took over as the Hawks interim coach in 2021. Has been the team's full-time coach for the past two seasons. Atlanta currently 29 and 30 sitting in eighth place in the Eastern Conference. ESPN adding Joe Punti going to take over in the interim role. I'm going to look at his numbers 99 and 80.

Again, he took over in the interim role when they were 14 and 20 and then went 27 and 11 as you see there in the 20 slash 21 season. Problem is there have been rumblings with his superstar Trey Young and when Trey Young not dealt at the deadline perhaps in pension naturally and things going on in the summer. But it was supposed to be a big year for the Hawks who sit currently in the eighth spot. They brought in Dejante Murray to pair him with Trey Young and then yet at starting five with Andre Hunter, John Collins and Clint Cappell again expectations were much higher for Atlanta.
