White House wants airlines to pay up to delayed passengers

the White House now proposing that airlines should have to pay up to delayed passengers in some circumstances now this would apply in what they're calling controllable cancellations or delays. Fox 5 from Murray Stone is at Reagan National tonight with the story. Good evening. You ever had a flight canceled sitting in a chair like this one crossing your legs looking at social media. It truly is the worst. It's frustrating. Well, we talked to some passengers here at Reagan National and they tell me that the Biden administration is offering them some relief.

The new regulations require airlines to compensate passengers with not only a ticket but meals and hotels if they are stranded for reasons within the airlines control right now when an airline cancels a flight for any reason you can demand a refund but in many cases most often airlines may try to persuade people to accept a travel voucher or instead of a refund. The president says the current travel system leaves passengers absorbing the extra cost of a canceled flight. Some passengers want the airlines to also compensate when a flight is canceled due to bad weather. It's frustrating. Um, weather obviously should incur the same amount of reimbursement as the airline. I feel that it's the airlines responsibility to accommodate the guests. Now cancellations that are within the airlines control are for such things as shortage of crews or mechanical issues.

So the next time you come to the airport, you put your bags on a cart like this and you have to go back to your car. Just know that you could receive a refund from the airline. Back to you.
