Ukrainian president Zelensky's diplomatic tour across Europe. Zelensky making a surprise visit to Paris today to meet with French President Macron. That's after stops in Italy and Germany. All this coming as Ukraine's long anticipated spring counter offensive could be starting. ABC's Marcus Moore in Ukraine tonight. Tonight, new video of a powerful explosion rocking the western Ukrainian city of Khmelinsky as Russian drones attack critical infrastructure, including an apparent weapons depot before and after satellite images showing the destruction. And in Bakhmut, this harrowing video released by Ukraine showing trench warfare.
Ukrainian forces taking back more territory in what could be the start of the much anticipated counter offensive. Drone video showing Ukrainian fighters ambushing a Russian position. Those Russian soldiers later seen running into a forest, a Ukrainian armored vehicle close behind, opening fire into the woods where the Russians had just fled. It comes after Russian media reported two fighter jets and two helicopters were shot down this weekend, the most inside Russia in a single day. As he prepares for Ukraine's next moves on the battlefield, tonight President Zelensky on a diplomatic tour through Europe. While in Germany, he says the upcoming counter offensive will be aimed at liberating areas occupied by Russia, not to attack Russian territory. Germany, meanwhile, pledging to support Ukraine for as long as it takes, announcing its biggest military aid package yet at $3 billion.
And late today, arriving in France for a previously unannounced visit, meeting one-on-one with French President Macron. In an effort to shore up support, this war stretches into 14 months with no clear signs of ending. And, Mary, President Zelensky tweeting tonight that Ukraine's defense and offensive capabilities are expanding and their ties with Europe growing stronger. Mary?
