Damage to Tom Lee Park was minimal during Beale Street Music Festival, group says
and this year's Biel Street Music Fest is common gone. Thousands returned to the newly renovated remodeled Tom Lee Park. This past weekend, but how's the park looking today? And was there any serious damage? Our WREG's Alex Coleman takes a look. After a three year absence brought on by the pandemic and park renovations, the Memphis in May Biel Street Music Festival made its highly anticipated return to Tom Lee Park over the weekend. We just had a great time walking down, walking along the river, listening to the music. Homie atmosphere, so it's been really good. Thousands of concert goers came back to the banks of the Mississippi River for three days of music along the remodeled park.
We believe that things went really well. Everybody from vendors to sponsors to festival goers. Everybody had a great time and the feedback has been very positive. The Memphis River Parks partnership has invested more than $60 million in redesigns for the park. But now that the music is stopped and the fans are gone, we wanted to find out if there was any significant damage to the park. There was some some damage to the card during the load in from from vendors. But but overall, you know, thank goodness it didn't rain this weekend.
That you know probably save some impact on the park and I think just great to see people enjoying using Tom Lee Park earlier this weekend. Using Tom Lee Park earlier this year, a required damage deposit had caused a rift between Memphis and May and the MRPP regarding Tom Lee Park. The park now features new winding pathways, a decorative bridge, tariff stones, shrubs, flowers, and more than 1000 new trees as festival goers will be attending even more events throughout the month. The Bilstreet Music Festival has completed, but as we know, the World Championship Barbecue Festival is coming up so after everything is done, then we'll really get to see you know what happened in terms of what needs fixing remediation in June. MRPP will continue making repairs and restart construction as Tom Lee Park prepares for his official debut in September. So we're open to seeing you know what we can do to make sure that Tom Lee is ready to go for Labor Day weekend. Alex Coleman WREG TV, New Channel 3.
Well, it looks like the so called soft opening went well and we also reached out to Memphis and May organizers about the damage. They said they didn't have a comment right now. So please stay tuned.
