Cyclone Mocha Kills At Least 6 People In Myanmar, Several Villages Destroyed
Well, we do have an update to bring along on Fox weather first. Unfortunately, very sad news. At least six people are dead and several villages have been destroyed by a powerful cyclone that is ripped through Myanmar on Sunday. Now, the winds were estimated to be 130 miles per hour when it made landfall. Again, a cyclone. This is what we compare to it is a hurricane, just a different name here. With those winds, that makes it a category for hurricane.
That's what we would categorize this for the Atlantic Basin. Now, this does tie for the strongest landfalling tropical cyclone for the country in history due to those strong wind speeds and the second strongest landfalling hurricane in the North Indian Ocean Basin. Before landfall, this typhoon or pardon me, this tropical cyclone had sustained winds at 175 miles per hour. That is the strongest recorded in the basin going all the way back to 1998, a catastrophic hit for the country. And unfortunately, this is still unfolding and search and rescue operations are ongoing at this hour. So really tough and tragic news to pass along of this typhoon or tropical cyclone that's moving through the Indian basin.
