USC sweeps SEC's 2023 women's postseason awards



At 625 we're back with some sports news this morning. South Carolina women's basketball getting ready for the SEC tournament that starts today right here in Greenville. We know a lot of fans are excited for that and ahead of the tournament the Gamecocks are being honored with some big awards. Our sports director Beth Hull has the latest. It's been a busy day for South Carolina collecting hardware from the SEC including head coach Don Staley being At 625 we're back with some sports news this morning. We know a lot of fans are excited for that and ahead of the tournament the Gamecocks are being honored with some big awards.

It's been a busy day for South Carolina collecting hardware from the SEC including head coach Don Staley being named SEC coach of the year for the sixth time now and second consecutive season under Staley's leadership. The Gamecocks became just the fourth SEC team to finish the regular season undefeated and they have now helped strong to the top spot in the AP and the coaches polls every week this season. Alia Boston repeats as SEC player of the year and defensive player of the year as well. She's the only player in the nation ranked in the top five of both named SEC coach of the year for the sixth time now and second consecutive season under Staley's leadership. The Gamecocks became just the fourth SEC team to finish the regular season undefeated and they have now helped strong to the top spot in the AP and the coaches polls every week this season. Alia Boston repeats as SEC player of the year and defensive player of the year as well.

She's the only player in the nation ranked in the top five of both offensive and defensive player rating leading the SEC in both of those categories and earns her a spot on the all SEC first team along with fellow senior Zaya Cook. A look here at the six Gamecocks earning all SEC honors Camila Cardoso representing the Gamecocks on the second team and Raven Johnson selected for the all freshman team and of course Boston followed by fellow senior Bree Beal on the all defensive team. South Carolina the only team with two to offensive and defensive player rating leading the SEC in both of those categories and earns her a spot on the all SEC first team along with fellow senior Zaya Cook.
