Another story we're following is out of the NBA as we are learning new information about Grizzly's rising star in the NBA, John Morant. And we're also learning new information about the NBA and a new suspension coming down. This is a statement regarding a new eight game suspension without pay. The NBA announced today that Memphis Grizzly's guard, John Morant, has been suspended. Eight games without pay for conduct detrimental to the league. The discipline is in response to Morant's live streaming of a video on March 4th in which he is holding a firearm in an intoxicated state while visiting a Denver area nightclub. Morant will be eligible to return to the team's game against the Dallas Mavericks on Monday, March the 20th.
Of course, the league office conducted an investigation of the Marth Fort incident based on the information obtained during the investigation. The league did not conclude the gun at issue belonged to Morant, was brought by him into the nightclub or was displayed by him beyond a brief period. The investigation also did not find that Morant possessed the gun while traveling with the team or in any NBA facility. And the Colorado authorities did not find sufficient cause to charge Morant with a crime. So we're following this as we learned that the Glendale police just outside there of the Denver area decided not to charge him after they saw him at a Denver nightclub and they said it was not him. So those are some very key details that he suspended eight games that the NBA believes that the gun is not Morant's. Certainly could have been a larger suspension under the collective bargaining agreement if that was the case, potentially 50 games.
If he did bring it on a team plane, of course, Memphis playing at Denver that night. Certainly a team plane regarded as a team facility so it could have been a larger suspension. So we're learning about this here on live now from Fox.
