'DEEPLY DISAPPOINTED': Biden's FAA pick is 'unqualified to lead,' Sen. Cruz says

Biden's picked to run the FAA, facing big pushback from Republicans. They don't think he's qualified? Yeah, his name is Phil Washington and he has no aviation experience. Here's Senator Ted Cruz. Deeply disappointed that the Biden White House decided to treat a critical safety position as a political spoil system. To reward a political ally rather than to ensure an experienced safety professional to keep us all safe. Phil Washington is objectively, indisputably unqualified to lead the FAA. He's the CEO of Denver International Airport since 2021, so not very long.

Here's the news. A Senate committee delayed the vote yesterday on his nomination. With all these scares on the runways, all these delays, there has been no head of the FAA for one year since March of 2022. They're trying to get Phil Washington in. It doesn't look like it's going to work. Could it be identity politics that gives him a credential? We don't know. The FAA separately issued a rare call to action bulletin.

It's so bad. It's so bad right now. Telling the airlines they need to step up vigilance at the airports because of all these close calls, etc. On the runways. So out of everybody, I think Pete Buttigieg wants someone to head up the FAA more than anybody else right now. Okay, but I think identity politics was raised. That was the issue there just as much as his competence and qualifications for the job.

I think there you go.
