Arlington man awarded a long-awaited Medal of Honor | Get Uplifted

Get uplifted is sponsored by Eastern's automotive group. Eastern's is celebrating 35 years of serving the DMV. 524 now on this Friday morning. It's time to get uplifted in this morning. I'm sharing the story of an honor that is long overdue and well deserved for one of our local veterans. Congratulations to you and it is your old family. That was President Joe Biden congratulating retired Colonel Paris Davis on being named a Medal of Honor recipient nearly 60 years after Davis comrades began pushing for him to receive the honor.

Davis will receive the Medal of Honor later today for his heroism during the Battle of Bong San in Vietnam. Davis, who was one of the first black officers to lead a special forces team, refused in order to leave behind members of his team who were gravely injured despite him being injured himself. Captain Davis refused and said no, I'm not leaving. Well. I'm not leaving while I have me on out of the field. Davis, his commanding officer immediately nominated him for the award, but the papers were lost. I'm putting that lost in error quotes twice now.

58 years later, he is finally receiving the military's highest honor and I heard a more extensive interview with him and he was saying, he knows it was racism that led to this delay, but Larry, when I tell you that there is no bitterness assigned to that, it's just, he also said, if you basically wait long enough, America will do the right thing. So even grace in that moment and to know that he was nominated by his, the people that he served with who were white, it's the system that basically he blames for it, not his comrades in arms. So I just think there's so much power in that message and he's very clear on what he thinks happens. But it's here today and congratulations and we're so happy to call the DMV home with him. Absolutely. Congratulations to him. What a great story.

Great story. I want to share things that uplift you. You can email us and get uplifted at www.usa9.com. Reach out to me on Twitter, Instagram or our get up to see what's your page.
