Winter Storm Marches From Plains to Midwest

Winter Storm Marches From Plains to Midwest

Big deal in Colorado, in parts of Oklahoma, believe it or not, while parts of the state tonight is dealing with severe weather. Colorado also saw a decent amount of snow. Some areas picking up more than 12 inches south of Denver, a little closer to Colorado Springs. This area of low pressure is continuing to develop, and as it does strengthen just a little bit, more snow is going to fill in, especially for Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Kansas. We're kind of seeing the tail end of this in Denver, but there has also been some snow in Oklahoma. You see where the storms are. Not a huge difference between where we're dealing with a little bit of snow through the panhandle of Oklahoma and those storms.

But farther north into Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa, even Missouri, that column of air is trying to moisten up. We're showing maybe a little bit of snow around St. Joe. Perhaps that's the case, really would have to look at the observations to see if it is snowing. Sometimes you get a little bit of dry air to overcome before that snow actually reaches the surface, even if it is being picked up by radar. Future track, our Fox model, showing that snow expanding, and it's going to drift off to the north and east. We have rain that's going to move through, too.

There is going to be a corridor in the Midwest, say from about Springfield, Illinois, down into St. Louis, through south-central Missouri, and parts of Arkansas, this dry slot, where we're not going to get much moisture. But just north of it, boy, are we going to see it. In fact, we might see some pretty big totals, more than we've seen so far this season for this specific part of the country. Milwaukee, we've got snow on the way, five to eight inches, a pretty healthy swath, all the way just north of Kansas City. Don't think we're going to see those totals in KC, but we could see them in Omaha, we could see them in Des Moines, and then points north. Southern Wisconsin, right along the shores of Lake Michigan, we've got Milwaukee.

School's already out for the kiddos there. Winter storm warnings, they do remain, but we'll watch these gradually get chiseled away from the west to the east. So Denver, we'll see them dropped. Eventually, we'll see western Kansas, Colby and Hayes, they'll get dropped, and then, yeah, we'll see that snow wrap on up. But some decent snow expected, especially through the Midwest with this go of it. We've had a bit of a deficit through this part of the country. So, Bridget, not too bad as far as the snow is concerned, but I think that the growing concern this evening is going to be that severe weather.
