Murdaugh prosecutors reveal flurry of steps after killings, rest case

And we begin tonight in Walterboro where the prosecution rested their case in the Alec Murdoch double murder trial today, but not until their final witness offered a detailed timeline of the evening Maggie and Paul Murdoch were killed. Sled agent Peter Rudovsky showed jurors where Murdoch's car was on the night of the murders. New information from General Motors allowed prosecutors to know the location, times and speed of Murdoch's vehicle on the night Maggie and Paul were murdered. Moments after the two were killed, Rudovsky says Murdoch's car left the property and within seconds the car slowly drove by an area where Maggie's cell phone would later be found and then that vehicle sped up. Take a listen. In the grayish white looking box you can still see the little circle where it says Maggie Murdoch's phone location and right under it's where the pin the the pin point is going to be. It's going to be 908 36 42 miles an hour.

Next slide 25. The upper halfway portion of that that box you're going to see the circle again the orange circle. That's me Maggie Murdoch's phone and at 908 42 we have the suburban traveling approximately 45 miles an hour after passing that location as the defendant's vehicle starts to accelerate. It does. Rudovsky says that the data tracked Murdoch to his parents house that night where he stayed for 20 minutes. He then returned to his home calling 911 only seconds after arriving. News 19's Kailin Hagwood has more details from the courtroom.

The state of South Carolina rests. After four weeks of testimony the state rested their case Friday in the double murder trial of Alec Murdoch. Their final witness shared a detailed timeline of what investigators say happened the night his wife Maggie and some Paul were killed. Special agent Peter Wiftowski testified that Murdoch was driving upwards of 80 miles per hour at times slowing down near the area where Maggie's phone was allegedly tossed on the side of the road before calling 911 near the kennels on the family property. On the moment the suburban arrived at the kennels how long did they take for that 911 calls to be made? That's 20 seconds. Prosecutors suggest Murdoch couldn't have checked their dead bodies in seconds of arriving despite telling investigators he did. But defense attorneys argue the timeline including when the two were killed is unclear calling the Calden County Coroner to the stand as their first witness.

Concluded on your death certificate nine o'clock. That's strictly an estimation. That's a guess. That's a guess. Okay could have been 830. Could have been 830. Could have been 10 o'clock.

There are no witnesses there to tell me exactly what time this happened. Court resumes Tuesday morning at 9 30 after the president's day holiday. At that time we could hear from a crime scene analyst and even Murdoch's living son Buster as the defense continues to present witnesses on his behalf. Reporting here in Calden County, I'm Kailin Hagwood. Kailin thanks again testimony resuming Tuesday morning because of the holiday now and you can watch that testimony when it happens live on our social media platforms including the free WLTX plus app on our YouTube page and on our website.
