Massive Coast-to-Coast Winter Storm Will Fuel Blizzard Conditions Across Parts Of US
back to our top story. It's that coast to coast storm. It is causing a lot of mess out west. Let's take a look at some video from Montana where we do have blizzard warnings out for parts of the state. Currently alive look at Miles City, which Miles City is currently not under that blizzard's warning, but a winter storm warning where we're gonna have some large impacts. It is a very cold and blustery start to the day. Look at that snow.
Can't see any of the pavement, which is actually pretty common for this one spot and many spots across Montana, but we have some really rough roads that we have to get through this morning. Let's take a look at our watches and warnings across the Northwest. Really the blizzard warning. Those are the ones highlighted in orange. Those are the ones that need to hop right to the top of your attention over Glasgow, Montana, Rawlings, Wyoming, and then a large swath of South Dakota and Minnesota, Aberdeen, Sioux Falls, and just outside Minneapolis. We have blizzard warnings, and this is where travel is gonna come to a halt. Even areas highlighted in purple with our winter storm warning, we're gonna have a real tough time traveling across the area.
A lot of that is the combination of the snow and also a lot of the wind. Let's take a look at that current radar, and you can see where the snow is already coming down. So our coast to coast storm in full effect this morning, where we are tracking some snow that is really blustery and continuing across the Dakotas. You know, Jason, as we really work our way into this evening, I mean, this is 10 p.m. We have snow across the Dakotas with winds that are gusting 30 to 40 miles per hour. That's the kicker with this.
It's not just a snow event, it's the combination of the snow and the wind. Yeah, and all of this, you know what I mean, is pretty much being fueled by some of that arctic air that is gonna be sinking down in here, and that's the reason why we remain really confident, Brenda, that all of this is going to end up being snow. Yeah, this is Wednesday evening into Thursday. It's still happening across the Northern Plains, the upper Midwest, Jason. So this is a 48-hour event, and this is what it's all gonna total up to, something that could be historic for Minneapolis. We're talking about the potential of more than 18 inches of snow across Minneapolis. So folks are really getting the preparations underway as the time is ticking to go time for Minneapolis, although it's already happening across parts of Montana and Wyoming.
But, Jason, this could be one of the biggest snowmakers that we've had of the season. I'm Amy Freese. Welcome to Fox Weather's YouTube page. We have more great videos on the way, so make sure to subscribe to stay updated on all things weather.
