DeSantis signs bill officially stripping Disney of self-governing status

Official Walt Disney World has been self governing for decades, but now it will be overseen by a board appointed by Governor DeSantis tonight. Some say this move is just another signal of the governor's presidential ambitions. Local sense Glenna Milberg is live with it all for us. Glenna. Amassing power. Nicole definitely making the moves of what may be a presidential candidate to be. In fact, you know, the governor wrote a book and it drops tomorrow.

There's a book tour this week that's starting today's event, though, was the signing of a law that the governor literally ordered up from lawmakers at Disney's expense. Look at your watch and you'll know at what time the corporate kingdom finally came to an end. The governor coined Disney. The corporate kingdom got lawmakers to take away autonomous land governing status, put in his own board members. Firefighters here gifted the governor an axe without acknowledging any metaphor there. DeSantis says this new law ends Disney's decades old preferential treatment. Opponents, though, see it as punishing a company that defied his gender and race education changes.

Even Mike Pence this week on Business Cable called it a bridge too far. That was beyond the scope of what I as a conservative, limited government Republican would be prepared to do. Today's event included a staged public shaming of the Disney Tourism Giant. The Disney content was changing by including and promoting more and more immorality. The scripts echoing the governor's grievances with Disney's diversity practices and COVID policies that had to fight him. They were intimidated, harassed, bribed, coerced into taking shots. The governor named his board replacements five political allies and donors, attorneys, a school board member he helped elect and a self-described, born-again minister.

It's not unique to Disney. I think we had elites in this country spin different narratives and corporate America largely bought those hook line and sinker. No response, no comment from the people at Disney tonight. So this was a law I mentioned that he had ordered up from lawmakers and at these events you'll hear the governor kind of forecast more of what he wants to come and he did that today. It sounds like we're about to see a bill that would permanently in the statutes ban any kind of mass mandates and things like that. We'll see. I'm Glenna Milberg, live in Coral Gables tonight, Local 10 News.
