Arizona State hits HALF COURT BUZZER-BEATER to stun Arizona [FULL HIGHLIGHTS + RECAP] | CBS Sports

Arizona on the line at home. Omar Balo one free throw to make it a two point game. 2.9 to go. Desmond Cambridge, Jr. for the win. The Sun Devils pull the upset in miraculous fashion on the road in Tucson where they had been one and 11 since 2011.

And a monumental win for Bobby Hurley and the Arizona State Sun Devils. 89, 88 over their in state rival Arizona Wildcats. The seventh team in the land has gone down by one on their home court. And for the first time ever, an unranked ASU team beats a ranked Arizona squad. S. Taylor in the HQ studio with CBS sports senior writer, Matt Norlander. Boy, what a day in college basketball.

This just adds to it. How big of a win is this for Arizona State? Let's start there. Humongous, by the way, let's start here. I don't care what the calendar says, March has arrived. Okay, between what we saw with Iowa and Michigan State and now here. Major, major, major win for Arizona State getting a fourth quad one win. Doing it in the most unsuspecting of ways.

Cambridge, Jr. This is points 19, 20, and 21. Look how smooth, ooh, just nothing but net here. Unreal shot, unreal stuff here. This is mega, mega stuff for Bobby Hurley and that Sun Devils team, which is now going to get itself more realistically into the NCAA tournament picture. Another consequence of this is really when you look at Arizona's overall resume, I really question whether it can take this kind of home loss and still have enough to validate getting a one seed if it can even win. It would need to win out in regular season play and the Pac-12 tournament to even have a say in that.

This is a big L for Arizona, just in terms of that. It's big for the Pac-12 though, because Arizona State now getting itself back into that conversation, a very critical quad one win. You know, this is a top 10 level kind of team in Arizona, which has had some weird losses this season, but Cambridge coming big and Ballum is the first foul shot. Yes, he did. It's actually up for debate over whether or not, because the fact that Arizona State did not have a timeout in that spot. If you miss it intentionally, the capability to get something on the carrom to somebody, like Cambridge hits that and stride. It's still a very, very lucky shot, don't get me wrong.

It was Lillard-esque or Curry-esque, but if Ballum had actually missed both, I think it serves Arizona better, it gives them the better chance at winning or certainly gives Arizona State less of a chance of pulling it off. So what an ending, amazing stuff there in Tucson. How about for Bobby Hurley in his tenure at Arizona State? Where does this win rank for him? Because I mentioned how fruitless trips to Tucson had been for the Sun Devils. It's gotta be a big win in the Hurley era there. It is very big. Now, Hurley, if you really go and look at what he has done since he got to Arizona State, both in how he schedules and how they come back, he has gotten a litany of come from behind wins at halftime, by far the most in program history. This is just on the shortlist, and it might be in the top three of best wins overall of Hurley's career since he's gotten to ASU.

They've done a good job this season. They've been a little bit up and down, but here's why we love Call of Choups. As we get right here, we're getting ready to curl right into March, getting ready for all the postseason, conference tournaments before the big dance. You get these stories that really start to bubble up. Don't know if Arizona State's gonna make the NCAA tournament. I do know with wins like this, and again Russ, with how Iowa won, just getting the right kind of momentum, the right kind of vibe. I'm all about these vibes.

This is an outrageous shot. Are you kidding me? And to do it, and to do it, it's ASU at its big brother rival, Cambridge. Just that's a heave, man, and that is as pure as it absolutely gets. Big time stuff. This is a rivalry game. Arizona hadn't played in a week. It's not even coming off a Thursday game.

This was just a week's prep, and it ends on one big bucket at the end there. Huge by Desmond Cambridge, Jr., and huge for the Sunday.
